Thanks
for visiting with me here. As you can see from
my pictures, I do a lot of different work. I
enjoy making desks and "storage" type furniture
- entertainment centers, office and computer
units, bookcases - practical furniture for
everyday living.
I
do
a lot in an antique style to give it a warm and
usable feel. But most of all, I love repairing
and restoring antique furniture. Saving an old
piece of furniture from life in the basement or
junkyard can be just as rewarding, if not more
so - both to me and the owner - as making
something new.
I
started in this business over 25 years ago
repairing and refinishing antique furniture,
mostly my own. It was a great way to learn
furniture construction techniques and soon I got
the bug and started making reproductions of
antiques.
When
I moved to Mendocino in 1982, I began building
fine cabinets and doing millwork for local
contractors and homeowners in the area. As
filler between jobs I would make various pieces,
often clocks and weather stations, for sale in
the local galleries in Mendocino. I was also
president of the Mendocino Woodworkers'
Association in 1984 and 1985.
Aside
from two short courses in the James Krenov
school in Ft. Bragg, I'm mostly self-taught.
I've learned by reading, copying the techniques
I see while restoring antiques, and real, live
on the job training. I'm not the artistic,
creative type but I make solid, well-built, long
lasting pieces with your needs in mind.
So
whether you need that giant entertainment
center, a desk for your new computer, or that
priceless antique made well again, give me a
call.
