Micheletti Guitars has been handcrafting custom acoustic guitars for over 22 years. Rick still loves tailoring the art to the artist. One of my favorite things about guitar building includes working with people. Even though the art and the resonance are already in the woods I use, its the musician that makes it come alive. I like to know some specifics about my clients: their playing style, their preferences in neck widths and shape and aesthetic considerations for example. Then I'm in a position to craft an instrument that is just right for them.

Rick and his wife Deana spend a lot of time treasure hunting, as they call it; searching for unusual tone woods. Living only an hour away from two of the finest Luthier suppliers in the world, Luthiers Mercantile International, Inc. and Allied Lutherie Ltd., is a real advantage. We spend hours looking through and selecting woods from all over the world.

Rick has increasingly used local tone woods too. Sometimes its surprising where great woods appear. We have found some unusual Myrtle in small sawmills along the Oregon coast. A friend traded me a small truckload of old growth redwood that had been milled many years ago. Another had some figured California Black Walnut. I have even used figured Chinquapin, a type of oak that grows locally, for binding the edges of some guitars.

Even though art is a large part of guitar building, Rick places emphasis on sound and playability. Each guitar is treated as the individual that they are. Proper thicknessing and bracing of the soundboard is essential and Rick has spent decades learning the subtleties of this craft.

Ricks goal in guitar building is to create an instrument that will inspire the musician to higher levels of creativity and performance. There has to be something coming back at you, he says More that just a cooperation, it needs to be like a partnership.
